Well. Aren't multiple long hall flights just ducky.
Anyhow we have made it at last to London. I am certain of this because I have already heard the words "please mind the gap" about ten times. Sitting on the tube at present, Piccadilly line. A jaunty one hour+ ride from heathrow to the stop near the big brothers house. The smell of many combined perfumes is interesting but I suspect is still a more pleasant smell than me at present. Sorry lady who is next to me.
At this time it is raining and 8 degrees in London. Basically exactly the same as what we left behind in Wellington! I am feeling rather pleased that we depart for the hopefully warmer climes of turkey tomorrow! At the same time I am infinitely grateful for the chance to sleep off the jetlag in a familiar, English speaking city first!
worth mentioning that we met a nice Norwegian chap on the flight over. as the flight went right through from Auckland to heathrow we were next to him for the entire 25 hours so luckily he was friendly (but not too friendly). He had just spent 6 months in NZ which was a lot longer than he had originally intended and confessed that he shred a tear or to as he was leaving! I told him I understood exactly what that was like, but didn't go into specifics (chch). After a conversation in which I professed that I get really hungry when I'm bored (i.e., on a plane), and he said that he only gets hungry when he is doing something (i.e., not a on a plane), he offered me his cheese and crackers AND his cheesecake from his lunch. not even landed and I'm already scabbing free food off of total strangers...
So as you can see not much had happened yet! But doing this has pleasantly passed most of this tube journey!
Jane.
Yay! You're here! You will have a fabulous time in Turkey. We absolutely loved it. Pergamon and Ephesus are absolutely amazing. :)
ReplyDelete"Shred a tear" - shivers! Sounds terrible!
ReplyDeleteActually it's the ancient Norwegian art of collecting one solitary tear, freezing it, then putting it in the blender, so as signify how truly sad you are about something. The guy on the plane explained it to me at length.
